Key to a Successful Drug Rehabilitation

The key to successful drug rehabilitation is the cooperation of the family to ensure that their near and dear ones are admitted to the best rehab center possible. The addict obviously cannot be expected to say that he or she wants to be rehabilitated. A drug addict is not in a frame of mind usually to take logical decisions. The craving for drug supersedes all other aspirations. Apart from drug craving, drug addicts suffer from rejection, low self-esteem and anxiety. So it is important to make sure that as a family member, you get your near and dear one admitted to the best drug rehab center in your area.

Once a person is admitted to a drug rehab center, the people in charge may ask the family about the history of a person’s addiction, the reason for his stress etc. The rehab center may ask the family members to keenly involve themselves in the counseling and support program. The reason for this is to make the addict feel secure that his loved ones are with him towards making him alright once again. When there is a support of family members, the drug addict feels a need and a desire to lead a normal life once again

What about a drug addict, whose family has disowned him? In that case, a social worker or a friend who brings him to the rehab center has to be with the addict assuring him of support and love. It is important that as a family, friend or a well-wisher, you have to make sure that the person does not feel lonely and rejected. Even after rehabilitation is done, it is better to be with the addict so that the person does not feel isolated once again. People tend to take drugs more when they are feeling lonely and neglected

The sign of successful drug rehabilitation is the way treatment is done and how every case is approached with a rightful perspective. There is a detoxification process in place which is used to flush out all the toxins in the body that are created by these drugs. The experts at drug rehab centers give you medication to ensure that the pain that follows withdrawal symptoms are minimize. The toughest part of rehabilitation, detoxification can last for several weeks also, depending upon the length of time, a person has been suffering from drug addiction .There are medicinal drugs like buprenophine and methadone given to eliminate the dependency of people towards drugs.

There are sessions like individual therapy and group therapy that are a prominent part of successful drug rehabilitation. They help in psychologically helping the cause of the person to drive away temptation from drugs. You can also bring close friends in therapy programs so that the recovering addict gets more motivation. There are group therapies as well that helps the addict interact with other recovering addicts. There are community based programs that stimulate the creativity of people making them get high on creative challenges rather than drugs. The things that they learn here turn out to be productive and can be channel by them even after leaving the rehab center fully cured.

It has been said time and time again that admitting an addiction to alcohol is the first step to recovery. Alcohol addiction treatment programs that work offer help, education and support with the hoped end result being a serene, healthy and sober life. It can be achieved with a structured treatment program.

It is important to understand that conquering an addiction to alcohol is not easy and will not happen overnight. It will take time and requires submission and acceptance that change is at the core of any good alcohol addiction treatment program.

A good alcohol addiction treatment program will be personalized for the individual needs of the patient. Most programs embrace the belief that addiction is a disease, rather than a symbol of social weakness. Most alcohol addiction treatment programs focus on helping people stop their drinking. This is often achieved through intensive counseling and rebuilding one’s spirit and character. Once that happens, education can begin which will supply the necessary tools to have a healthy and sober life. They will also include activities with others experiencing the same program. Peer support is critical to success in any alcohol addiction treatment program.

Any alcohol addiction treatment program will address the multiple reasons for a person’s use of alcohol. Detoxification is most often the first step in any effective alcohol addiction treatment program. Once the body is clear of alcohol, the hard work begins, including intensive individual and group therapy sessions. An important aspect of effective alcohol addiction treatment programs is the reteaching of positive behavior and coping mechanisms. Any alcohol addiction treatment program will have a abstinence-based zero tolerance approach to recovery.

People who complete an alcohol addiction treatment program have an almost 100 percent success rate of achieving long-term sobriety. This number includes the amount of people who do not return to abusing alcohol. There is hope for meaningful recovery from alcohol addiction.

Marijuana is a highly-addicting drug that causes psychoactive effects on the brain. As soon as it enters the brain, it causes the user to feel high for about one to three hours. After the euphoria passes, the user will feel sleepy or depressed, or even feel anxious, panicky, or paranoid. Once a user takes this drug into his system for a continuous time, he may develop marijuana addiction. Once addiction, stopping the use of this drug will cause withdrawal symptoms to occur and marijuana addiction recovery may be difficult.

Before we discuss the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal, let us first enumerate the symptoms of marijuana addiction. To start with, we have loss of short-term memory; learning difficulties; increased heart rate; impaired attention and judgment; and impaired coordination, balance, and reaction time. We also have hallucinations and delusions; disorientation; chronic cough and increased risk for lung infections; and increased risk for cancer. As you can see, marijuana addiction may affect nearly all of our body systems.

Now, what are the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal? Included in the list are irritability, anxiety, physical tension, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite or anorexia, increased aggression, mood swings, stomach pain, restlessness, anger, headache, nausea, paranoia, and strange dreams. These unpleasant symptoms will endure with some intensity for several days before they subside in a gradual manner. During this time, the cravings for marijuana are strongest and the risk of relapse is greatest.

Indeed, marijuana is one of the most difficult drugs to give up. Successfully battling marijuana withdrawal is highly influenced by the user’s commitment and determination, the encouragement of his support systems, and his inner will to quit the vice.

It has also been said that the way to achieve marijuana addiction recovery is to create a new life where it is easier to not use. This means that you should remove or stay away from all the factors that brought you to your addiction so that it won’t catch up with you again in the end.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer than you will have to choose the best mesothelioma treatment center to get the best possible treatment and care you deserve. Not all mesothelioma treatment centers provide the same level of treatment. You need to select the best one from a wide range of mesothelioma treatment centers. There are some guidelines which you need to follow while you will choose the best mesothelioma treatment center.

There are some questions you should ask before you commit to any particular mesothelioma treatment center.

i) Is the mesothelioma treatment center registered with the ACCC?
The Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) has a membership of hundreds of hospitals and treatment centers for outstanding treatment facilities. Make sure the clinic you are considering is a member of this organization.

ii) Does the American Cancer Society recognize the Treatment center?
If the ACS has any concerns about the types of mesothelioma treatments provided by your mesothelioma treatment center, make sure you do some further research. The American Cancer Society (ACS) should be your first stop for mesothelioma information and support.

iii) Does the clinic provide all services at their own location?
Some mesothelioma treatment centers are fully prepared to treat mesothelioma but outsource some of the phases of the care. Lab specimens might have to be sent to other facilities which can cause critical delays in treating your mesothelioma disease.

iv) Is the clinic’s staff 100% professional?
You need to check whether the clinic’s staffs are professional or not. You don’t need to be treated for mesothelioma cancer in a treatment center or in a clinic that has introduced cost-cutting measures such as non-professional support staff. You want to be taken care of by professional nurses and health care professionals.

v) Does the treatment center have a dedicated health care team?
You want to make sure that the individuals working with you remain part of a dedicated team that is familiar with your treatment from start to finish. Continuity of the treatment procedure is of great importance and essential for your well-being.

Mesothelioma treatment center follows all the above necessary points and also have the experienced professionals to provide cost effective mesothelioma treatment to the patients. With the help of its professionals or experts mesothelioma treatment center provides painless treatment to the mesothelioma patients across the World.

Inpatient substance abuse treatment is the most effective way to treat drug addiction. Studies show that the longer a patient stays in an inpatient substance abuse treatment program, the better their chances are of staying sober. An inpatient substance abuse treatment program is a steady foundation for recovery and health.

Programs at an inpatient substance abuse treatment center provide important building blocks for a life free of drugs. It can teach the life skills and recovery tools needed for a sober life, while offering coping mechanisms through individual and group counseling and activities with others experiencing recovery.

A well-developed and individualized program can mean the difference between long-term sobriety and relapse. For inpatient substance abuse treatment to be successful, the patient must be completely cooperative and willing to work the program. They must want to achieve sobriety and a healthy life. The pure advantage of inpatient substance abuse treatment is that it means freedom from everyday distractions and other stressful situations. This allows the job at hand recovery to take place at a steady pace.

According to the National Institute for Drug Abuse, inpatient substance abuse treatment programs help people struggling with addiction to change their behaviors and cope with their emotions. An inpatient substance abuse treatment program teaches one how to live without the stifling constraints of substance abuse. Inpatient substance abuse programs address not just the addiction, but the complete emotional and psychological needs of the person in recovery. This means that a treatment program can be customized for one’s individual needs. A quality inpatient substance abuse problem educates not only the person addicted to drugs, but the family and friends of the addict. Learning about the consequences of addiction opens up channels of communication and encourages sobriety. The realization that addiction is a disease, and not a moral failure, will only help smooth the road to recovery.

The problem of addiction to various substances detrimental to human health is the trend in the present era. The addiction is psychological and genetic in origin. We find addictions run in families like if the forefathers were addicted to tobacco then the new generation is to alcohol, caffeine etc.

Medically drug addiction is defined as ‘A state of periodic or chronic intoxication caused by repeated use of natural or synthetic drug’. This type of addiction is a set back for the individual and the society. Our economy is affected due to such habits and dependence. The dependence can be of a physical or mental in nature. What begins as a fun trip to the world of pleasure eventually becomes a bane. Temptation is a basic trait of teenage. When we come across fashionable item our first desire is to posses it. On a similar ground we get provoked while watching others enjoy the bliss of stimulating drugs.

Who Are Afflicted To Drug Addiction

1.	Some addictive substances increase the physical and mental stamina to such an extent that the belief that anything can be accomplished by its use takes deep root in the mind. We find professionals and sportsperson performing well after drug intake but in the long run it is detrimental to their health and career.

2.	The children deprived of parental love, money and exposed to social evil like sexual abuse, mal handling are more prone to fall a prey to this menace. They are misinformed about the entire process and try to use it as a tool to take revenge on their parents and society. But they end up as habitual abusers and find it difficult to revert back.

3.	The drug intake in medication form is taking an upswing in the society. These individuals take medicine to alleviate their pain or discomfort and in the long term are unable to give away the habit.

4.	The women are sensitive creatures and easily fall into the clutches of drug habit. They are affected by emotional trauma like bereavement from loved one, rape, sexual abuse, divorce etc. The above problems are also true for the male populace. But in addition they go for drug to increase their efficiency, appease friend and display of masochism.

As the drug abuse is on the rise the society has a major role to play apart from health personnel.

Treatment for Addiction in Children

Since physical, mental and social factors are involved, counseling for patient and parent is a necessity. If the problem is detected at the earliest then the antidote medicines can be easily advocated. Sometimes the child is not affected to that extent and few sessions of counseling and medication suffice. Residential treatment is given for severely addicted children. Here group counseling and discussion help children who seek emotional support.

If you were to investigate substance abuse facts from the government’s department of defense, you would find the startling figures. Drug abuse has consumed the lives of so many of our youths and adults. Millions of people neglect their health to all kinds of drugs and alcohol. They also indulge in prescription pill abuse. The individuals who abuse prescription drugs also need treatment because they are tolerant and dependent of drugs and will go to any measures to get it.

There are about seven million people in the United States who abuse prescription pills according to the government. This figure comes to be more than the combination of people that abuse other hard core drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and ecstasy. The number of people who abused drugs heightened since the year 2000 when it was three million. Over a period of six years, it rose to seven million and that is a high figure to swallow.

People who abuse prescribed pills do so for various reasons, but in most cases, it is because they want to hide their mental and physical pain. There are many resulted deaths from people who over dose on prescription pills, alcohol, cocaine and heroin.

It also affects teenagers and that is scary. Substance abuse facts report that an estimated one in every ten teenagers who go to high school abuse prescribed pills especially during their last year of school. The outrageous truth is that an estimated forty percent of these teenagers don’t realize how destructive this behavior is to their health, well being and education. Parents also put up with it. They would rather their children take prescribed pills rather than other heavy drugs. However, what they don’t know is that it has the same effect on the body and the mind.

The most widespread of all prescribed pills that is abused is hydrocodone. This counts for an estimated three quarter of the prescribed drug abuse problem that is hitting the United States. About an estimated twenty five percent emergency hospital cases are connected to drug over dose.

According to many substance abuse facts, there are so many tell tale signs that people begin abusing prescribed drugs for so many different reasons, but no one knows for sure. Some begin the abuse process when their doctor’s have prescribed certain medication that they rely on so much that it becomes an addiction to get rid of pain and treat injuries.

They become reliant on the drugs and it turns out to be a part of their daily lives. Doctors should be responsible for giving prescribed medication to patients on an ongoing basis without finding out if it is really necessary or not.

Some people consume anti-depressants to treat their anxiety problems and become addicted to it. Drug rehab treatment is helpful in getting those individuals to stop the abuse process. They are taught how to handle their anxieties and depression in other ways that are safe and meaningful.

In some cases, an individual may be abusing prescribed medication that has side effects and this result in more prescribed medication to counteract the side effects. Thus it becomes a revolving process and no end in sight.

The difference between substance abuse and addiction is very slight. Substance abuse means using an illegal substance or using a legal substance in the wrong way. Addiction begins as abuse, or using a substance like marijuana or cocaine. You can abuse a drug without having an addiction. For example, just because Sara smoked weed a few times doesn’t mean that she has an addiction, but it does mean that she’s abusing a drug — and that could lead to an addiction.

People can get addicted to all sorts of substances. When we think of addiction, we usually think of alcohol or illegal drugs. But people become addicted to medications, cigarettes, even glue! And some substances are more addictive than others: Drugs like crack or heroin are so addictive that they might only be used once or twice before the user loses control.

Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or drinks. Someone who’s addicted to cocaine has grown so used to the drug that he or she has to have it. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.

Physical Addiction

Being physically addicted means a person’s body actually becomes dependent on a particular substance (even smoking is physically addictive). It also means building tolerance to that substance, so that a person needs a larger dose than ever before to get the same effects. Someone who is physically addicted and stops using a substance like drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes may experience withdrawal symptoms. Common symptoms of withdrawal are diarrhea, shaking, and generally feeling awful.

Psychological Addiction

Psychological addiction happens when the cravings for a drug are psychological or emotional. People who are psychologically addicted feel overcome by the desire to have a drug. They may lie or steal to get it.

A person crosses the line between abuse and addiction when he or she is no longer trying the drug to have fun or get high, but has come to depend on it. His or her whole life centers around the need for the drug. An addicted person — whether it’s a physical or psychological addiction or both — no longer feels like there is a choice in taking a substance.

Psychological signals:

use of drugs or alcohol as a way to forget problems or to relax
withdrawal or keeping secrets from family and friends
loss of interest in activities that used to be important
problems with schoolwork, such as slipping grades or absences
changes in friendships, such as hanging out only with friends who use drugs
spending a lot of time figuring out how to get drugs
stealing or selling belongings to be able to afford drugs
failed attempts to stop taking drugs or drinking
anxiety, anger, or depression
mood swings

Physical signals:

changes in sleeping habits
feeling shaky or sick when trying to stop
needing to take more of the substance to get the same effect
changes in eating habits, including weight loss or gain
Getting Help

If you think you’re addicted to drugs or alcohol, recognizing that you have a problem is the first step in getting help.

A lot of people think they can kick the problem on their own, but that doesn’t work for most people. Find someone you trust to talk to. It may help to talk to a friend or someone your own age at first, but a supportive and understanding adult is your best option for getting help. If you can’t talk to your parents, you might want to approach a school counselor, relative, doctor, favorite teacher, or religious leader.

Unfortunately, overcoming addiction is not easy. Quitting drugs or drinking is probably going to be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. It’s not a sign of weakness if you need professional help from a trained drug counselor or therapist. Most people who try to kick a drug or alcohol problem need professional assistance or a treatment program to do so.

Tips for Recovery

Once you start a treatment program, try these tips to make the road to recovery less bumpy:

Tell your friends about your decision to stop using drugs.Your true friends will respect your decision. This might mean that you need to find a new group of friends who will be 100% supportive. Unless everyone decides to kick their drug habit at once, you probably won’t be able to hang out with the friends you did drugs with before.
Ask your friends or family to be available when you need them. You may need to call someone in the middle of the night just to talk. If you’re going through a tough time, don’t try to handle things on your own — accept the help your family and friends offer.
Accept invitations only to events that you know won’t involve drugs or alcohol. Going to the movies is probably safe, but you may want to skip a Friday night party until you’re feeling more secure. Plan activities that don’t involve drugs. Go to the movies, try bowling, or take an art class with a friend.
Have a plan about what you’ll do if you find yourself in a place with drugs or alcohol. The temptation will be there sometimes, but if you know how you’re going to handle it, you’ll be OK. Establish a plan with your parents or siblings so that if you call home using a code, they’ll know that your call is a signal you need a ride out of there.
Remind yourself that having an addiction doesn’t make you bad or weak. If you fall back into old patterns (backslide) a bit, talk to an adult as soon as possible. There’s nothing to be ashamed about, but it’s important to get help soon so that all of the hard work you put into your recovery is not lost.

If you’re worried about a friend who has an addiction, use these tips to help him or her, too. For example, let your friend know that you are available to talk or offer your support. If you notice a friend backsliding, talk about it openly and ask what you can do to help. If your friend is going back to drugs or drinking and won’t accept your help, don’t be afraid to talk to a nonthreatening, understanding adult, like your parent or school counselor. It may seem like you’re ratting your friend out, but it’s the best support you can offer.

For over twenty years, Roberta Jewell was a functioning alcoholic. A successful medical researcher and working mother, she fought a private battle, not knowing how to stop drinking-and not wanting to turn to traditional treatments for alcoholism. Ready to be rid of her demons once and for all, Jewell did what many said was impossible: she developed a highly effective at-home <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/602226']);” href=”http://www.mywayout.org”>alcohol treatment program.
Incorporating medication, hypnotherapy, herbal supplements, constant anonymous support, and a light exercise regimen, My Way Out has caught the public’s attention in a big way. The results speak for themselves. There’s a real demand for an alcohol treatment program that allows you to remain truly anonymous, and Jewell’s fits the bill.
The idea for a medication for alcoholism is not a new one- researchers and doctors have been testing different alcohol treatment drugs for years. What is a bit surprising is Jewell’s choice in drugs. Topamax, traditionally used as an anticonvulsant and in the treatment of migraines, began displaying potential as an alcoholism treatment when users reported a lessening of alcoholic cravings while taking the medication. Later, in a double blind study, a staggering fifteen percent of Topamax users quit drinking all together, in comparison to only three percent of those taking a placebo. In careful combination with certain herbal remedies known to help curb the desire to drink, this medicine program may be the boost to get you on the road to recovery.
Of course, <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/602226']);” href=”http://www.mywayout.org”>help for alcoholism can not effectively come in pill form alone. While taking medication is an important first step, a behavioral change is essential for lasting results. My Way Out addresses this issue on two fronts. First, self hypnotherapy is encouraged. For years, hypnosis has been seen as a form of help for alcoholism, and Jewell’s program incorporates this age old treatment. With a new mindset in place, the focus of the program shifts towards the body. A light exercise routine can help put you back in touch with your body- a connection that is often lost during the trials of alcoholism. Focused exercise, such as mild yoga or a simple jogging program can do a world of good as you seek the strength to stop drinking.
Although all alcohol treatment programs agree that a support system is a crucial part of success, there is no real agreement as to the best way to seek this support. Traditionally, twelve step or group programs have stood by the need for public mentoring. Though this type of help for alcoholism has worked for many people, it is not for everyone. There are some who prefer to turn to an understanding ear in the privacy of their own home, without the group setting. My Way Out has developed a free web based support community as part of its alcoholism treatment program that many have found helpful in times of struggle.
<a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/602226']);” href=”http://www.mywayout.org”>Help for alcoholism comes in many forms, once you are ready to make the change. My Way Out has blended medical and holistic treatment programs to form a new, modern approach to the treatment of alcohol abuse.
