3 dead, 2 injured as scaffolding collapses at Dilworth construction site – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE — Three construction workers died after falling 70 feet from collapsed scaffolding in Dilworth, the Charlotte Fire confirmed.

Firefighters said the incident happened just after 9 a.m. Monday at a construction site on East Morehead Street near Euclid Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, the Charlotte Fire Chief. Jackie Gilmore said they found collapsed scaffolding and workers who had fallen from it. Three of the workers died at the scene, Gilmore said.

Workers had fallen about 70 feet, he added.

Paramedics later confirmed that two more construction workers had been taken to hospital but were not seriously injured.

Captain Gilmore said the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the case.

Dozens of first responders, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the Charlotte Fire Department, are on the scene investigating. A CMPD crime scene investigation vehicle was also left at the scene.

Channel 9’s Hannah Goetz saw other construction workers in the area leaving work. Captain Gilmore said all construction work had been halted until the investigation was completed.

One worker told Channel 9’s Genevieve Curtis they were “doing what they can”.

The Charlotte Fire created a family reunion zone for families of victims.

This is a developing story. Check for updates.
