The transformation of the technology world since 2020 reflects changing work dynamics, economic headwinds and changing lifestyle choices. As the next normal approaches, new technologies will bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds.
High Five to 5G
2G gave us photos, 3G gave us browsing the web, and 4G gave us high-definition video. Now 5G is ready to connect everything to everyone. With 43 billion devices expected to be connected to the Internet this year, fifth-generation mobile networks will transform the way we generate, collect, share and use data. Offering faster speeds and lower “latency” than 4G, 5G is not only attractive for personal devices, but has huge potential in business activities from manufacturing to healthcare and education. 5G is also expected to drive innovation in autonomous vehicles, cloud gaming and mixed reality. India has the second largest wireless network in the world; KPMG says 612 million people are expected to have a 5G connection by 2030. Therefore, by 2025, the national GDP may increase to 500 billion US dollars.
The Year of Wearables
Wearable devices are democratizing for the Indian market. These smart devices are quickly becoming a favorite over mobile phones and PCs, a segment that fell 10% year-on-year in India last year due to persistent inflation and weak demand, and things don’t look set to improve in 2023. Navkendar Singh, an analyst at research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), said that while the high-end market (i.e. expensive phones) has grown, cheap smartphones are in decline as options are limited and people hold on to their devices for longer. According to IDC data, in the first three quarters of 2022, India’s wearable device exports exceeded 100 million units. Noise, boAt, Fire-Boltt are breakout brands along with Xiaomi, Realme, OnePlus and more.
Say Aye to generative AI
The two new kids on the block are ChatGPT and Lensa AI. The first is an AI chatbot that uses natural language processing to generate human-like text. The second creates stylized portraits powered by artificial intelligence. Generative artificial intelligence is the most noteworthy technology trend this year as it changes the way content is created. Improved AI and ML will drive a growing number of consumer applications and services that offer AI-driven image or video creation, low-code solutions for office workers, and knowledge and information processing solutions .
in the cloud 9
While cloud adoption is growing, enterprises are trying to control cloud costs in the current economic climate. look! Enter FinOps. Companies will be able to monitor data consumption across multi-cloud deployments and manage cloud computing costs. By 2023, Forrester expects organizations to opt for third-party, cloud-based FinOps solutions. Mohit Bajaj, executive director of IT consultancy Simplex Services, said demand for cloud computing services optimized for
One particular industry — from the public sector to telecommunications and healthcare — will grow this year, although technology research and advisory firm Gartner expects more than half of enterprises to adopt industry cloud solutions by 2027.
Meet my digital twin
While brands are experimenting with the Metaverse as a new marketing channel, expect more companies to incorporate “digital twins” — computer-generated 3D models of physical objects. The Metaverse is post-mobile; it opens up new ways to access content through mixed reality (a mix of VR and AR) headsets, smart glasses, and other wearables. Some companies have already implemented digital twin pilots in training, product design and prototyping, new employee onboarding, and meetings and presentations. They are expected to become mainstream this year. Brands and corporations may build their metaverse outposts on platforms like Roblox, Decentraland, The Sandbox, and more. By 2022, instead of teaming up to pit Meta’s grand Metaverse ambitions head-to-head with Microsoft’s vision of the future of work, the two companies are teaming up to make Microsoft software run on Meta hardware, meaning virtual reality and the Metaverse are set to dance together . That said, 2023 will also see a clash between proprietary immersive digital universes and the original Metaverse vision of decentralized, community-owned virtual spaces.
