“Canada Dairy University” Master of Dairy Technology Management

These courses are interdisciplinary. Students not only learn how to deal with increasingly complex global supply chains, but also how technological advances are enabling new approaches to dairy processing and product formulation. They explore how effective technology management can improve the quality, efficiency, food safety, traceability and sustainability of dairy products worldwide. They combine scientific, economic and business knowledge with information to make effective technology management decisions.

The goal is to translate passion for dairy processing management and innovation into three overarching competencies: dairy science and technology; operations management, food safety systems and quality assurance; and market and technology assessment.

The first semester begins with an emphasis on the scientific basis of dairy and processing. This is followed by a second semester, which expands dairy processing operations and technical assessments. The degree ends with a third-semester project.

Students will gain twice the exposure if MDTM is offered jointly by OAC’s two departments at the University of Guelph. They will learn from researchers in the Department of Food Science who study the chemical, physical and microbiological aspects of food to ensure consumers have access to quality food that is nutritious and safe to eat.

They will also learn from experts from the Department of Food, Agriculture and Resource Economics (FARE). Their work focuses on applied economics and business analysis of the entire food value chain from farm to fork.

From September 2022, the excellent quality of OAC is available to more talents from all over the world. OAC has launched three new dairy technology management courses: Dairy Chemistry and Microbiology, Principles of Food Safety and Quality Assurance, and International Food Industry and Policy Analysis.

These courses are the core of the MDTM program, but can also be taken individually and then count towards the master’s degree.
