Clarkson Technology Showcase
2021 Tech Showcase Winners

Clarkson University will hold its second annual technology showcase and competition next week in Western New York. The October 26 event will feature investment pitches for ten startups founded by Clarkson University faculty or alumni. More than $75,000 will be awarded to help accelerate the commercialization of a range of exciting new inventions, including medical devices, water treatment technology, safety devices, clean energy solutions, and more! While most of the companies participating in the showcase were located in the upstate New York area, many of them were assisted by regional resources, including LaunchNY in Buffalo, RIT’s Venture Creations Incubator and Syracuse Tech Garden. Admission to the event is free, but registration is encouraged.

The event is designed to create opportunities for these selected companies and their founders to network with industry leaders and start-up investors located outside of the North Country, while showcasing the outstanding work of one of New York State’s oldest engineering and research universities . Start-up investors and other professionals who choose to participate will not only have the opportunity to participate in these company pitches, but they will also have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with company founders. In addition to the $75,000 prize awarded by an expert jury, viewers will have the opportunity to choose three separate $1,000 prize winners.

Some of the companies competing for the $40,000 top prize include: Ducted Wind Turbines, which is designing, building and selling economically viable ducted turbines that generate nearly 50 percent more energy than similarly sized open rotor turbines; DMAX Plasma, which provides Patented Enhanced Contact Plasma Reactor to Destroy Harmful PFAS in Contaminated Water; Pirouette Medical, a company focused on developing low-profile, disc-shaped auto-injectors with a patient-centric focus on affordability, portability, and usability , and; Buffalo-based Swift Rails is focused on developing a new type of personalized on-demand transportation that is 5 times faster and 40 times cheaper than traditional light rail.
