Draft update to California privacy rules eases burden on businesses

California regulators are considering reducing business requirements for consumer privacy requests, such as eliminating deadlines for third parties to notify businesses (and indirectly consumers) that they cannot comply with the law.

The California Privacy Protection Agency is updating its rules to expand consumer choices over how businesses collect and use personal information under the California Privacy Act. The agency is conducting a second round of public comments after incorporating feedback on its original set of proposed changes. The public comment period ends on Monday.
