Vermont Business Journal Dynapower, a South Burlington-based global leader in power conversion and energy storage solutions, has partnered with Alphastruxure and Montgomery County, Maryland to provide energy storage that will help provide the county with on-site power generation, including renewable energy ) electric bus fleet provides uninterrupted power resources.

Using an integrated system of solar energy, microgrid energy storage and charging stations, the Brookville Smart Energy Bus Station will eventually provide 4.14 megawatts of charging capacity for 70 electric buses (50% of the Brookville Bus fleet). Converting these 70 buses from diesel to electric, powered by an on-site clean energy microgrid, would reduce lifetime emissions by 62% over the next 25 years, equivalent to a reduction of more than 160,000 tons of greenhouse gases.

Dynapower’s 3 MW/4.3 MWh CPS-i integrated energy storage system provides OEMs with microgrid battery storage, stores electricity to charge electric buses, and enables 100% operational capacity in the event of grid disruptions. It also allows participation in Potomac Power Company’s (Pepco) Demand Response Program, which supports regional grid performance and optimization to improve energy resiliency for local residents and businesses.

Statewide, Maryland is working toward a 50 percent zero-emission bus fleet by 2030. The Brookville Smart Energy Bus Station aligns with the county’s priorities of reducing public transit emissions while enhancing the resiliency of the community and infrastructure assets.

“We are proud and honored to help Montgomery County in its efforts to achieve sustainability, electrification and climate resilience,” said Adam Knudsen, general manager of Dynapower. “This project aligns with our goals of powering a cleaner planet and reducing global carbon emissions. .”
