Katie students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of career services at the Miller Career Center. Two upcoming Open Houses give prospective students and parents the opportunity to learn about the program before the application deadline.
These two open days offer current high school and middle school students the opportunity to explore the opportunities on offer.
Professional Career and Technical Programs
“Katy ISD’s interest in career and technical education continues to grow,” said Miller Career & Technology Center Director Kelley Kirila. MCTC’s innovative courses, open to juniors and seniors, provide opportunities for students to explore and gain exposure to potential higher education options or career experiences. “
For the 2023-2024 school year, MCTC will offer more than 30 courses spanning business and industry, public service and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Registration will open on Friday, January 20 and close on Friday, March 3, 2023.
Why Juniors Should Consider Future Coursework Opportunities Now
“Students are encouraged to start exploring coursework opportunities in middle school, so it is easier for them to choose approved courses for high school than it is for 8th graders,” Kirila said. “Also, some advanced courses require students to complete prerequisite courses before 9th and 10th grades. “

Students remain on campus
Miller Career Center courses are open to juniors and seniors. Interested students apply during their sophomore year; applicants have an acceptance rate of 90% or higher. Once admitted, students retain their home campus but travel to Miller for two semesters. There are morning and afternoon classes, and students stay on the main campus during lunch.
Participating students can still participate in extracurricular activities at their alma mater such as soccer, band, practice teams, and more.
Many programs offer community opportunities
Community members should also know that many of MCTC’s student programs provide benefits and service to the community as students gain hands-on and real-world experience. Katy residents can find lovely services and contributions to help students learn.
Students and staff from the Vet Med program provide community dog washes on Fridays. Dog owners can choose a morning or afternoon appointment and treat their pooch to a variety of packages ranging from $15 to $25.For more information or to make an appointment, please call 281-237-1589 or email MCTCGrooming@katyisd.org.
A spa run by cosmetology students and a garage run by automotive students also provide services to the community. Contact MTCT at 281-237-6300 for information and to make an appointment.
