Northbound lanes were closed for nearly nine hours. “It just kind of turned into a snowy situation. The roads were slick,” Julie Brady said. Brady said she was hit while on a trip to Illinois. “Suddenly, it was a chain accident. You could see it was a chain accident. There were cars everywhere, so I slid off and avoided hitting a pickup truck right in front of me,” Brady said. At 12:30 p.m., multiple crashes occurred on I-39 NB/SB on I-39 – I-90 near Beloit in Rock County. “On our way home the road was pretty bad and started seeing cars brake and the next thing you know, we were coasting trying to avoid an accident. We ended up hitting another car on the shoulder and saw the crash coming, We just ran away from that car,” Trevor Nelson said. Nelson’s car was where both Nelson and Brady waited for hours as crews made their way through the wreckage. At 4:48 p.m., Beloit Memorial Hospital confirmed they had admitted 27 patients. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the crash was related to severe winter weather conditions with snow, ice and white clouds. WISN 12 News asked Nelson to describe the scene, and Nelson said, “Honestly, chaos, it’s crazy, it’s like a scene from a movie.” WisDOT asked travelers to avoid the area, while state patrol and other authorities provided assistance with driving Investigators participated in the investigation of the accident and efforts to clear the road. “It’s kind of surreal. I’m just glad I’m fine and I’m not hurt,” Brady said. This is an ongoing story. “Suddenly, it was a chain collision. You could see it was a chain collision. There were cars everywhere, so I slid a bit to avoid hitting a pickup truck right in front of me,” Brady said.
