It’s clear that last year’s College Football Playoff was in line with the Michigan Wolverines. After losing 11-34 to the Georgia Bulldogs in the CFP semifinals, the Wolverines were determined not to make the same mistake twice.
Now, in 2022, Michigan is approaching their second chance at the College Football Playoff, and it’s a business opportunity, not a vacation one.
“We’ve been here before, and we know there are a lot of things that can distract us from the task at hand,” McCarthy said. Getting ready for this week, we felt more like a business trip than a vacation like we did last year in Miami. So I would say the biggest difference is we’ve been here before and we know what to do. “
Here’s more from McCarthy’s morning podium:
What sets this team apart?
“We love each other. It’s not just a football team, we come together from different places and just want to win football games together. We absolutely love each other and we want each of us to be successful, no matter who that is. is the biggest difference.”

Where does this love come from?
“I would say, it’s definitely in the same boat. That’s prominent in careers like the military, where SEAL training is required. All the hard work we’ve been through this offseason has just brought us closer together.”
How did you feel after losing to Georgia in 2021?
“It’s just a deep regret in my mind. Obviously my ability was limited last year, but the extra thought in my mind is that I could have done more — there’s more work to be done, in the offseason, I should accept taking advantage of more opportunities.”
How did that loss affect the offseason?
It just kicked off the whole off-season. We hit it really hard right away. No, ‘give me a week off, I’m kind of exhausted’…no. It’s just an act of moving forward, just building the momentum that we’re still driving now — and we’re gaining more momentum in a way. “
