Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the latest twist in British politics as “complete chaos” after Prime Minister Liz Truss announced she would resign on Thursday.
“It goes beyond exaggeration and parody,” she tweeted. “The reality is that ordinary people are paying the price.”
Scotland’s most senior politician and leader of the left-wing SNP, Sturgeon, said Britain’s general election was now a “democratic imperative” as she criticised the Conservatives. Truss came to office to replace Boris Johnson after being elected by Tory members, rather than contesting the general election himself.
