Savannah, Georgia – Many shelters are not receiving enough of some of the most important things are cold weather items.
Outside Savannah and Hilton Head Outside are partnering with Old Town Mission Savannah to increase this much-needed supply.
With the number of homeless people steadily increasing across the country and in our region, outside clothing stores are giving back to those in need in a major way.
“So, at our locations in Hilton Head and Savannah, we’re holding a jacket drive for the homeless. We’re just asking anyone to come down and bring their spring cleaning.” Samantha, store manager “Anything, jackets, sweaters, blankets, anything that’s warm to us, we can help and donate so you can get a discount on a jacket of your choice,” said Samantha Valdes.
Valdez said it’s been exciting to see the support they’ve received so far and has shown her how much people care about the homeless.
“I know in recent years, people probably haven’t bought as much, and maybe haven’t had as much to give, but to see that they’ve really made an effort, to see it’s really special … it feels really good to see the community The sticks just came out you know they obviously heard about the initiative and just saw the results and just saw people come out and say oh where are you you know we have a couple come and bring 3 bags of stuff I helped them get it out of their trunk, same thing they weren’t even interested in discounts, they were really happy that their items were put to good use,” Valdes told WSAV News 3.
Valdez hopes the move will push other stores in Savannah and the Lowlands to contribute to a worthy cause.
“I think it’s an inspiring thing, I think you know there are always companies out there that want to make an effort and change the world, so I think we can all inspire each other, it’s really important to help inspire other people’s help, “she says.
