Louisiana fraternity student Madison Brooks killed after being hit by car after alleged rape
Four men have been arrested for allegedly raping a LSU student before abandoning her on a dark road where she was hit and killed by a carpool.
Alpha Phi sorority sister Madison Brooks, 19, spent the night of Jan. 14 at Reggie’s Bar in Baton Rouge, where she allegedly encountered her attacker.
Brooks was sexually assaulted in a car by four men in the early hours of Jan. 15 before they drove her off a highway, investigators said. A driver then hit the 19-year-old girl, who died hours later in hospital.
Kaivon Deondre Washington, 18, and a 17-year-old male, who has not been named because of his age, have been charged with third-degree rape.
Mr Washington’s uncles Everett Lee, 28, and Carson Carver, 18, have been charged with rape – and are out on bail.
Lawyers for two of the suspects claimed to local media KSLA that footage of the alleged sexual assault proved their innocence and that the late 19-year-old had agreed. However, during a hearing on Tuesday, a judge said the footage, along with other evidence, actually proves that a crime did take place.

Suspect seen on video ‘mercilessly’ mocking victim
Before setting bail, Judge Brad Myers said he had seen a video showing the suspect “relentlessly” mocking Madison Brooks while she mumbled words in the car in which the alleged rape occurred, WAFB9 reported. However, he said the video did not show the alleged attack.
The video was taken by one of the suspects.
The judge said he had also seen video taken at Reggie’s Bar, where Madison confronted her alleged attacker, which reportedly showed her tripping, falling and needing help. Madison’s mental state, and her ability to consent to sex, are at the heart of the case.

Liquor license revoked for LSU student’s bar with alleged attacker
The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control announced Tuesday that it is issuing a warning to Reggie’s bar in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, following the tragic death of 19-year-old Madison Brooks. Emergency Closing Order.
The agency cited “the seriousness of the allegations and the potential threat to public safety.”

Suspect could face higher charges
Prosecutors in the Madison Brooks case have vowed to escalate charges against the alleged attacker.
Prosecutor Stuart Theriot said during a bail hearing Tuesday that the state will seek to upgrade the first-degree rape charge and plans to convene a grand jury in the case.

Judicial District Judge Brad Myers of the 19th District set Mr. Washington’s bond at $150,000. Mr. Lee was held on $75,000 bond and Mr. Carver was held on $50,000 bond.
The 17-year-old’s bail hearing has been postponed until February.
Both Mr Li and Mr Carver were released from prison on Wednesday morning under house arrest.
