A man was hit and killed by an oncoming subway car in Queens on Monday afternoon in an apparent dispute, police sources said.
Heriberto Quintana, 48, of Queens, Jamaica, was struck by an arriving F train on the embankment of the track at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station at about 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 4, law enforcement sources said. 17.
Shortly before he was killed, Quintana had an argument with an unidentified 50-year-old suspect that led to a physical fight, according to authorities. Police arrested the suspect and took him for further questioning.
Meanwhile, the victim man was rushed by EMS to nearby Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident caused chaos on Monday night for thousands of passengers commuting at the station, which is served by 7, E, F, M and R trains on weekday nights. Disturbed by the incident, serval riders expressed their concerns about what they believe is becoming a serious safety issue.
“My wife came back late that night and it was past 12 and I was depressed. It’s dangerous now. I’m a New Yorker and I won’t be late again,” one carrier told amNewYork Metro.
The train bound for Forest Hills and Jamaica was forced to skip the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station while police investigated the scene, according to the MTA’s New York City Department of Transportation. Visit mta.info for more information on service changes.
