Oak Park business catches fire, spreads to residential buildings

OAK PARK, Illinois — A fire caught on the first floor of a business and spread to a building in Oak Park early Friday morning.

Oak Park Police started a fire on the first floor of a building in the 227 block of South Avenue at around 12:23 a.m. The fire spread from the first floor through the walls to residences on the second and third floors.

The three-alarm fire caused smoke and flooding to 36 units in the area, according to Oak Park Police. No injuries were reported except for one firefighter who was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and returned to duty.

The cause of the fire is currently unclear.
