Police say 3 dead, 4 injured in latest California shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three people were killed and four others were injured in a shooting at a short-term rental home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood early Saturday, police said.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. near Beverly Crest. It was at least the sixth mass shooting in California this month.

Two of the four victims were taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle, while the other two were transported by ambulance, police spokesman Sgt. Bruce Brahan said.

Two are in critical condition and two are in stable condition, Borihanh said. The victim’s age and gender were not immediately released.

Borihanh said investigators are trying to determine whether or what type of party was taking place at the rental property.

Borihanh said police had no information on the suspect. With the shooting over, the neighborhood was divided as investigators searched for evidence.

The early Saturday morning shooting follows a massacre at a dance hall in suburban Los Angeles 11 dead, 9 injured and shootings at two Half Moon Bay farms last week Seven people were killed and one injured.

Huu Can Tran, 72, shot and killed patrons at a dance hall in predominantly Asian Monterey Park on Saturday, tens of thousands of people attended Lunar New Year celebrations earlier in the evening. He drove to another dance hall but was stopped by an employee. Many of the dead were in their 60s and 70s.

Tran later killed himself when police closed the van he was in.

A man shot and killed four people on Monday on the mushroom farm where he worked, then drove to another farm where he had previously worked, where he killed three people, authorities said. Zhao Chunli, 66, is in jail and facing murder charges in what police described as workplace violence.

The killings deal a blow to the state, which has some of the strictest gun laws and some of the lowest gun death rates in the nation.

The US will record more than 600 mass shootings in 2022 for the third year in a row, with at least 4 people killed or injured, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
