Salvation Army urges business hour donations after Emporia thieves strike

Emporia, Kan. (WIBW) – The Salvation Army in Emporia is urging residents to donate items only during business hours as thieves continue to raid their donation boxes.

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Emporia posted on social media on Friday, January 1. On Monday, officials continued to investigate several thefts that occurred at the property “over a period of time.”

Officials said they were working closely with Salvation Army staff on the investigation, however, the organization said it wanted to reach out to the community.

KVOE reports that the organization is now asking residents to bring their donations during working hours. The previous policy allowed 24/7 donations in the parking lot south of the building. The organization operates from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays.

If anyone has information about the theft, please call the Lyon County Emergency Communications Center at 620-343-4225 for non-emergency or thrift stores at 620-343-3166.
