The names of 11 victims of the Monterey Park shooting

Authorities in Los Angeles on Tuesday released the identities of all 11 people killed in Saturday night’s mass shooting at a dance hall in Monterey Park. The attack took place on the eve of the Lunar New Year, and many of the victims were elderly Chinese immigrants.

The six women and five men shot dead at the venue Star Ballroom Dance Studio ranged in age from 57 to 76. The studio is a popular haven in Monterey Park, a Los Angeles suburb home to many Chinese and other Asian immigrants. Frequented by a close-knit community of devoted dancers who go there to take classes, socialize and stay active.

Ma Ming, the studio’s manager, was among those killed. A local resident who took classes at Star Ballroom described him as “a kind of community manager who recruited dancers to studios and hosted karaoke nights and stage performances.” Former immigrant from China, frequented Starlight Ballroom.
