“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah has announced he is leaving the broadcaster.
In a video statement shared on Twitter on Thursday, Noah said his “time has come” after seven years as the host of Comedy Central’s satirical news show.
“It was amazing. It was something I never expected,” Noah said of his experience hosting the show. “I found myself thinking about everything we’ve been through. The Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, more pandemics, and I realized that seven years later, my time was up.”
Noah, a stand-up comedian from South Africa, was a relative newcomer to American audiences when he was named host of The Daily Show after Jon Stewart signed in 2015. people.

“I wanted to say thank you to you for watching this,” Noah said. “I never dreamed I’d be here. I’m kind of like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ I came here to visit the last show, and then you know I got the keys.”
Noah hinted that his decision to leave the show was rooted in his desire to return to more stand-up acting.
“I was in the apartment for two years, not on the road, and when I got back there I realized there was another part of my life that I wanted to keep exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and The show,” Noah said.
He thanked his audience, the “Daily Show” team and Comedy Central, “who believe in random comedians that nobody on this side of the world knows about.”
“I love hosting this show, it’s one of my biggest challenges and one of my biggest joys,” Noah said. “I love trying to find a way to make people laugh, even when the story is particularly bad, even on the worst of days. We laughed together and cried together.”
He did not share when his last gig was, but said he would be there for a while.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going away,” Noah said. “If I owe you money, I will still pay you back.”
