Ukraine’s NATO membership could lead to World War 3: Russian officials

Oct 13 (Reuters) – Ukraine’s entry into NATO could trigger a third world war, Russia’s Federal Security Council Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Venediktov told TASS state news agency on Thursday.

“Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a sure escalation into World War III,” Tass news agency quoted Venediktov as saying.

“Obviously, that’s what they’re counting on – to make information noise and bring attention to themselves again.”

Venediktov also reiterated Russia’s position that by helping Ukraine, the West showed that “they are a direct party to the conflict”.
