Uptown Martinsville Celebrates 12 Days of Small Business Saturday

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – Businesses in uptown Martinsville are celebrating Saturday’s 12 Days of Small Business Festival.

On November 15th, more than 20 businesses kick off a week full of discounts and deals. The Martinsville Chamber of Commerce kicked off the campaign in the run-up to the holidays to boost shopping.

“When you shop small and shop locally, your money stays in our community and we really encourage that,” said Kimberly Keller-Bonacci, Uptown Entrepreneurial Development Manager. “Since COVID, our residential The district has really thrived over the past two years. We want these businesses to be around for years to come, the way they would be if we supported them.”

They also organized a scavenger hunt, hiding $500 worth of prize money around Uptown for shoppers to find.

“The scavenger hunt draws people to all the local businesses that wouldn’t normally frequent these locations,” explains Martin Plaza Furniture Outlet employee Jeff Porter. “It’s just a great way to educate these people about what we have to offer, and we’ve seen it work well.”

“People love the boxes. It’s always been popular. We’ve done it in the past and we decided to bring it back this year. It’s going to be fun because we’ll be uptown and we’ll see people looking around for boxes,” says Kay. Le Bonacci added.

The incident not only affects shoppers shopping in small stores, but other business owners as well.

“We’ve had a lot of new people move into town that I probably didn’t know about,” says Ella Wickham, owner of Ella Mae’s Closet. “And then when I see the list, it’s nice to know who else is uptown. It helps me a lot . It also helps them know I’m here.”

On Saturday, November 26, the 12th day of the Small Business Festival will see the biggest sales for most businesses.
