The Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies will have to wait another day for the 2022 World Series to resume. Game 3 of the Fall Classic has been postponed due to rain, Major League Baseball announced Monday night about an hour before the first pitch. It will air on Tuesday instead, and the rest of the series will be delayed by a day. There will still be a rest day between Game 5 on Thursday and (if necessary) Game 6 on Friday.

- Saturday, November 5: Game 6 in Houston at 8:03pm ET (if necessary)
- Sunday, November 6: Game 7 in Houston at 8:03 p.m. ET (if necessary)
Monday’s postponement is the first postponement of the Fall Classic since Game 6 of the 2011 World Series.
Light rain started at Citizens Bank Park around 6 p.m. ET and will intensify around 9 p.m. ET and continue into Tuesday morning. Current conditions suggest that the Astros and Phillies can start Game 3 as scheduled, but they will have to take a break once late-night rain intensifies, and games may be suspended. MLB makes all weather-related decisions in the playoffs, and the league prefers to play nine innings without interruption as much as possible.

When the World Series finally resumes on Tuesday, the Phillies’ left-handed Ranger Suarez (10-7, 3.65 ERA) and Lance McCullers Jr. (4-2, 2.27 ERA) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher.
Coincidentally, Philadelphia is home to MLB’s most infamous World Series weather woes. Game 5 of the 2008 World Series was suspended due to rain in the sixth inning. The Rays tied the game 2-2 in the first half when the two clubs were hit by a downpour. Afterwards, then-commissioner Bad Selig announced that all World Series games must be played in nine innings.
“I’m not going to allow that to happen,” Selig told The Associated Press when asked about the possibility of the rainy season shortening the World Series. “I have to use my judgment. It’s going to rain until the weather conditions allow us to continue playing. That could be 24 hours or 48 hours, or who knows?”
Game 5 continued the next day as the Phillies won their first World Series title since 1980 with Pedro Feliz’s seventh-inning RBI single.
