Your or my business was robbed after a check was stolen, tampered with

Champagne, ill. (WCIA) — Nearly $40,000 was stolen from a business near the University of Illinois after police said several of their checks were stolen from the mail and altered.

The checks are believed to have been stolen at some point after they were dropped at the Post Office on Third and Green Streets. Police said the amount and payee information on the checks had been altered and then illegally cashed.

Eight of the company’s checks were stolen and altered. The top seven cashed out illegally in January, while the eighth cashed out on the 1st. 10.
