ALPENA – For the first time since 2020, the Alpena news business expo and educational book sale newspaper returns to APlex.

The event will be held on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. There is no entry fee.

The business expo will feature dozens of vendors displaying their wares and services, and there will be prize draws throughout the day.

Food will be available for purchase from Cops & Donuts and Nowicki’s Sausage Shoppe.

“I’m super excited because this is a great event to bring the whole community together while giving businesses a chance to showcase their stuff,” said Alpena News Publisher/Editor Justin Hinkley. “It’s a great opportunity to see what local businesses have to offer.”

Each participating business is offering an entry prize that attendees will have a chance to win.

Hinckley added that NIE book sales were about raising money for a good cause.

Thanks to the generosity of the community, between 12,000 and 15,000 books were donated for this auction. Proceeds will go toward getting the newspaper into district classrooms to help keep students informed about current events, among other things.

“Educational newspapers put newspapers in classrooms so kids can learn literacy, how to tell fact from opinion, and so on,” Hinckley said.

At auction, books are priced at $2 per hardcover and $1 per paperback unless otherwise marked.Come early for a discount that gets you the best options, while latecomers get a discount, $5 per box from 2-4pm

APlex is located at 701 Woodward Ave. in Alpena.
